Over the next few weeks we are featuring our “Ask Sam” series with Sam Burns, the Paint Manager in our Benjamin Moore Signature Paint Store.

Q. How do I know how many gallons to buy for my room?

A. Measure the perimeter of the room & multiply by the height of the room. This will give you the square footage. As a general rule, subtract 15 square feet for each window and 20 square feet for each door to arrive at a rough estimate of actual wall space to cover. It depends on the quality of the paint, but on average, you can take your rough square foot estimate and divide by 400 to approximate the gallons needed per coat.
