As the winter weather parts ways and welcomes in warmer temperatures and sunlight, it also brings a glow to many seasonal home maintenance needs. Gutters, sidewalks, roofs, and landscaping can all take a hit during the winter, but the good news is there is time to knock all of your maintenance needs and just in time to enjoy your summer. This week we look at some of the areas to be on the look out for.
1. Gutters
Check your gutters for blockages or leaks, and make sure they are securely fastened to your home. If not this can lead to unwanted moisture in your crawlspace or basement. When your done with your gutters do the same for your downspouts.
2. Roof
While checking your gutters it’s also a good idea to examine your roof for any cracks or missing shingles. Also keep an eye out for any wandering debris that has made its way to your roof.
3. Chimney
Examine the exterior of your chimney (if you have one of course) for any signs of damage. Check the joints between bricks or stones. Have any fallen out, or is vegetation growing? Both can be evidence of water infiltration. Have the flue cleaned and inspected by a certified chimney sweep.
